Street Life: Engaging 40 Big Issues with the Street Bible

Humorous and thought-provoking in equal measure ****
I came across this book whilst on holiday in North Yorkshire. In fact it was the only Christian book on the bookshelf. What I really enjoyed (and still enjoy, as I bought it as soon as I got home!) about it is the eclectic mix of topics that every Christian finds themselves encountering. These range from the Charity Shop via chocolate to noise. In fact, there are 40 'big issues' covered. Each issue is broken up nicely into a bit of 'setting the scene', then a passage from the Bible (Street bible translation) followed by the author's take, then some quotes on the topic, then questions, then next steps, then what to do if you wanted to complete ignore everything so far (not advised) and finally a quick prayer. It's surprisingly engaging and I found myself devouring page after page. There is no doubt that this was aimed at the younger folk, but there's much to be found from those 'more experienced' too and it's always refreshing to view things from another angle. One of the key messages I took from it is not to forget that God has a sense of humour too. In summary, this book will make you laugh, but it will also challenge you in equal measure. Recommended and I therefore award this 4 stars out of 5.
