Sadly the branch is no longer meeting. If anyone wishes to re-form the Mother's Union in the Parish, they should contact a member of the Parochial Church Council. If you're interested in the history of the MU in St. Paul's, read on...
St. Paul's Enrolling Member commissioned Rev'd Graham Rouse, previous Vicar at St Paul's and now a commercial wood turner, to craft a table-top cross to be used for Branch meetings. This was presented to the members (and blessed by Fr Donald) at our meeting on October, 2014. It is an elegant oak cross representing not only salvation and resurrection but also reflecting the journey from old to new. Using wood salvaged from a 19th century farm kitchen and destined to be burned, Graham created a beautiful cross with 'movement' - with its base of new wood supporting the 'rising to new life' of the old-wood cross, arching upward as a symbol of the journey from salvation to eternal life. The cross is to be found on the 'MU table' in church.
More generally, the Mothers' Union (MU), which was founded in 1876, is a Christian organisation within the Church and seeks to promote the wellbeing of families world-wide. As an organisation, it has over a million members in over 70 countries, all working towards improving family life within our communities through practical action and prayer.
Membership is open to ALL (and, despite the title, this includes all women and MEN), indeed, anyone who has been baptised in the name of the Holy Trinity and who is able to declare their support for the aims and objectives of the Society.
