The church family and community of St Paul's, Ansdell and Fairhaven
Churches Together
The five Christian churches in Ansdell meet monthly at St Paul’s Fundraising Shop to discuss and plan our ecumenical work. This cooperation includes joint church services; publishing of all the regular and special services in the monthly local free magazine [which is delivered to every house in the parish]. Each Good Friday, we also have on a Walk of Witness which concludes with a short service in one of the churches.
The five churches involved are St. Joseph’s RC; The Well Church (Baptist); The ‘White Church’ [United Reform]; Fairhaven Methodist Church; and St Paul’s.
On 5th December, 2012, on the occasion of the Churches Together Advent Carol Service held in St Paul’s, representatives from each church family signed The Covenant (see below) as an indication of the journey we are travelling together in God’s service within the local community. The Covenant
In obedience to the call of Christ, and as a first step
along the road to deeper unity we, the People of God of:
The Well Church (Baptist)
St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church
Fairhaven Methodist Church
Fairhaven United Reform Church (The White Church)
Ansdell & Fairhaven Saint Paul’s Church of England
who have happily shared our Christian life in a variety of ways over recent years
now feel a greater need to show our love for God and for one another
by a more formal commitment to grow together in doing his will.
We confess our faith in One God;
the Father, Creator; the Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour; and
the Holy Spirit, guiding His Church, the Body of Christ into all truth.
We regret the divisions in the Church, and repent of our share of what is sinful
in them; yet we rejoice in the riches of the traditions we have inherited, and seek
to share them more fully with one another in the unity which is the gift of God.
Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit
WE COVENANT
to respond together to our Lord's Great Commission to bear witness to
and propagate the Christian gospel through word and deed.
to share our inheritance, resources and experience for the benefit of those we serve;
to foster a growing unity in prayer, worship and fellowship;
to co-operate in ministry and pastoral care;
to unite in action for human need
in order to make the unity of Christ’s people in our community more visible
and thereby to bear a joint witness to our Lord Jesus Christ.
