7 Questions:
1. Role
A member of the P.C.C, Chalice Assistant, Quiz organiser, occasional helper at Family Service and St Pauls Charity Shop, congregation member. As a councillor I like to think I can act as a link with the local community when that is appropriate.
2. Why St. Paul's?
Initially as a result of a link I established between the church and Ansdell Primary where I was Headteacher for 22 years from 1988 until 2010. Since then it has always been my place of worship and source of spiritual replenishment! As a Christian the church provides me with fellowship and support, guidance and inspiration.
3. What do you see happening in St. Paul's in the next 3 years?
Build on what we have achieved. More outreach into the local community and more fundraising events. Opportunities for reflection as a community on faith matters. Support the new vicar. Grow the congregation and achieve a sense of mission. I also hope that the Charity Shop under its present management goes from strength to strength.
4. How important to you is St. Paul's in your life?
St Pauls is pivotal to my life spiritually and socially – I cannot envisage life without the church.
5. Best piece of advice for someone who's searching for answers?
Ask God through prayer, church leaders and also trusted friends. Asking questions is as important as finding the answers sometimes!
Attending the Sunday Service
6. What motivates you to attend a Sunday service?
Guidance, shared worship and reflection, learning, spiritual refreshment, friendship. Church is a special place where as Christians we can come together and be stronger. The Eucharist is a bond, a connection with God through the blood and body of Jesus Christ. I enjoy singing hymns with others as well as listening to the sermon and readings.
7. How important to you is the Eucharist / communion, and why?
Central to Christian Worship and reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for all of us – a pathway to God was made possible for sinners – hugely significant.
Sharing the body and blood of Christ is an integral part for me of being a Christian and I feel empowered through my faith afterwards.
